Rules of how to play short deck poker. Short deck is also called 6+ Hold’em.
The game is played with one standard deck of poker cards, but it only
contains 36 Cards instead of the full 52. The important
difference is that all 2,3,4,5 cards are removed, hence the
“Short Deck”.
Ace counts as the highest card or as the lowest card to make
a straight, You can think of it acting like a 5 to make a straight if that is possible.
e.g. A, 6, 7, 8, 9
e.g
T, J, Q, K, A
IMPORTANT
A flush ranks higher than a full house due to the fact it is
more difficult to achieve this hand. There are less cards that
are the same suit, so it’s harder to make a flush.
Gameplay
Short Deck poker plays in a very similar way to No limit Texas
Hold ‘em with some notable differences. The objective of the
game is to have the best hand at showdown, thereby winning
the money in the pot, or to be awarded the pot after all of your
opponents fold.
Play has a number of stages, and there is a round of betting for
each one. Once betting has concluded then play proceeds to
the next stage. Any player who does not want to proceed can
fold their hand at any time.
1. Pre flop: When all players have been dealt two cards, they
decide whether to proceed with their hand, and the betting is
completed.
2. Flop: After pre flop, three cards are dealt onto the middle of
the table and form the community cards which can be used by
any player. Betting is the completed before moving onto the
turn.
3. Turn: After the flop, another one card is dealt onto the
middle of the table so there are then four community cards.
Betting is then completed before moving onto the river.
4. River: After the turn, another 1 final card is dealt onto the
middle of the table so there are then 5 community cards.
There is then the final betting round.
Showdown: Players then reveal their hands, in a
predetermined order, whoever has the best hand wins the
pot. The player who took the last aggressive action (i.e.,
betting or raising) on the river shows their hand first. If every
player checked on the river, the normal order of play is
followed and the player closest to the left of the dealer
shows their cards first. If playing online, this will happen
automatically, and different sites, can have different rule
variations.
